Empowering Mothers, Strengthening Communities: The BCNF Mission

Since its founding in 2015, the Breastfeeding and Child Nutrition Foundation (BCNF) has been a steadfast advocate for maternal and child health in Barbados. Guided by the vision of co-founder Dr. Alison Bernard, the foundation is dedicated to promoting, protecting, and supporting breastfeeding and early childhood nutrition.

BCNF recognizes that breastfeeding is more than a personal choice—it’s a public health priority. Through its education and advocacy programs, the foundation works to ensure that every mother has access to the resources, knowledge, and support she needs. From training healthcare professionals to hosting peer support groups, BCNF is at the forefront of creating a breastfeeding-friendly culture across Barbados.

But the mission doesn’t stop there. BCNF also addresses the broader issue of childhood nutrition, focusing on the appropriate introduction of complementary foods. By optimizing nutrition in the early years, the foundation aims to combat childhood obesity and reduce the prevalence of non-communicable diseases in adulthood.

BCNF believes that empowering mothers strengthens entire communities. When families thrive, so does the nation. Join us in supporting BCNF’s mission to create a healthier, brighter future for every child in Barbados.
