The Breastfeeding and Child Nutrition Foundation (BCNF), in partnership with Antilles Outdoor, has unveiled the island’s first series of breastfeeding awareness installations.

Four brightly branded benches have been placed across Barbados, each carrying short, powerful messages such as “See It. Support It.” These benches are designed to normalize and celebrate breastfeeding in public spaces, while reminding communities that mothers deserve comfort, respect, and encouragement.

“Every mother should feel confident and supported to feed her child wherever she needs to,” said Dr Alison Bernard, Executive Director, BCNF. “These benches send a simple message: no judgment, no side eye—just see it and support it. When we support breastfeeding, we support families and strengthen our nation.”

The initiative forms part of BCNF’s campaign #TakeASeatForBreastfeeding, which brings together community education and social media outreach, and partnerships that promote healthier environments for women and children.

Antilles Outdoor, BCNF’s implementation partner, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration:

“Public spaces tell stories about who we are,” said Adam Gibbs, Innovation Director, Antilles Outdoor. “By dedicating these benches to breastfeeding awareness, we’re helping make acceptance and inclusion a visible part of everyday life in Barbados.”

The project aligns with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 2: Zero Hunger) and SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, reinforcing Barbados’ commitment to improving maternal and child health outcomes through community action and public education.

The benches were revealed on November 1st at Belleville, Sunset Crest, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, and Randall Phillips Polyclinic.

Members of the public are encouraged to visit the benches, take photos, and share their messages of support using hashtags #NoSideEyeSupport, #TakeASeatForBreastfeeding, and #FirstSeatForLife.
